Zelensky Cancels Session With Senators Before Vote on Ukraine Aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky canceled plans to appeal to U.S. senators for increased military aid, ahead of a Senate vote that could show growing opposition to funding the war effort in Ukraine. The call, arranged by Biden administration officials, would have highlighted Ukraine’s need for more than $61 billion in emergency aid to counter the ongoing Russian invasion. However, Republicans have remained firm in their opposition, advocating for stricter border security measures. This comes as U.S. officials warn that funds to send weapons to Ukraine are running low, risking a stalemate for Ukrainian troops. Zelensky has also expressed concern over dwindling U.S. military assistance and possible distractions caused by other global conflicts.
