Wood washed up on Maryland beach believed to be from 19th century ship
A piece of driftwood found in Maryland’s Assateague State Park is believed to be part of a 19th century ship. The 14.5-foot timber, thought to be deck timber from a ship, washed up in the park in December. The Maryland Historic Trust, which was contacted to investigate the driftwood, confirmed the timber dates back to the mid-to-late 1800s. The piece of timber will not be removed from the beach, but instead will be tagged and tracked when it is swept out to sea.
