With Chris Christie Out, Nikki Haley Is Poised to Benefit in New Hampshire

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s withdrawal from the Republican presidential race has shaken up the contest, potentially benefiting Nikki Haley, with many New Hampshire voters expected to switch their support from Christie to Haley. Former New Hampshire senator John Sununu argued that the nomination fight will now center more on the threat Haley poses to Trump’s candidacy. Christie’s decision may also impact the dynamics between Haley and Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida. A CNN poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire indicated that 65% of Christie’s supporters would back Haley if Christie were not in the race. However, Christie did not endorse Haley or any other candidate upon his exit.
