Winter storm: Brutal arctic blast expands its reach as the South deals with snow and ice
An arctic blast is causing dangerously cold temperatures across a substantial portion of the US. The forecasted temperatures for the Iowa caucuses could be on record as the coldest yet, with wind chills reaching the minus 30s. Approximately 79% of the US is expected to see below freezing temperatures, breaking over 140 daily cold records. The harsh conditions have also resulted in treacherous travel conditions, with snow, sleet and freezing rain causing fatal accidents. Texas’s power grid is under pressure as the state experiences freezing cold, and ERCOT has requested Texans to conserve electricity.
