Verstappen to pay over €1m in 2024

Max Verstappen, three-time world champion, will be charged over €1.2 million for the superlicense needed to compete in the next year’s races. This cost, which increases with every point a driver scores, is due to Verstappen’s success in winning 19 of 22 races in 2023. The fee will be paid by his team, Red Bull, and it remains unknown if other teams will follow suit. Verstappen previously criticized these costs as “absurd”. FIA superlicence, mandatory for any driver competing in Formula 1, consists of a €10,400 base figure and an additional charge of €2,100 for every point scored in the preceding season.
