Ventura County brush fire grows to 2,944 acres, some evacuation orders lifted

The South Fire in Ventura County, California has spread over 2,900 acres with only 15% containment. The fire began on South Mountain in the Somis area, rapidly growing from its initial size of 4 acres. Firefighting crews battled the wind-driven flames from both the ground and air. Some evacuation orders have been lifted or downgraded, but a warning remains for the Saticoy Country Club Area. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
