US supreme court hearing focuses on Trump’s eligibility for 2024 election | US elections 2024

The US Supreme Court is set to hear the case Donald J Trump v Norma Anderson et al, a case that could determine Donald Trump’s eligibility to run for president. Six Colorado voters filed a lawsuit alleging that Trump engaged in insurrection, which according to the 14th Amendment, disqualifies him from holding office. The Colorado Supreme Court has already ruled Trump ineligible, but the decision does not automatically apply countrywide. Trump’s lawyers argue that banning him from the ballot would cause “chaos and bedlam” and maintain that he did not engage in insurrection. This case marks the most direct intervention in a presidential election by the Supreme Court since Bush v Gore in 2000.
