US retaliates for fatal drone attack with attacks on militias in Iraq, Syria

The US military launched air assaults on more than 85 sites in Iraq and Syria used by Iranian-backed militias and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in retaliation for a drone strike that killed three US troops in Jordan. The targets included command and control headquarters, intelligence centers, and ammunition storage sites connected to the militias or the IRGC’s Quds Force. While some Iran-backed militias have pledged to suspend attacks on American forces, others have vowed to continue fighting. US President Joe Biden warned that such actions would be met with further retaliation. The impact of the strikes is unclear, and it is unknown whether militia members were killed.
