US family of 11-year-old shot by police vows to seek justice after officer gets no charges | US policing

11-year-old Aderrien Murry was shot by Sgt Greg Capers in Indianola, Mississippi, after calling 911 during a family dispute. Despite Murry’s serious injuries, including a collapsed lung, fractured rib, and lacerated liver, authorities decided not to charge Capers. A grand jury found no criminal conduct by Capers, and Attorney General Lynn Fitch confirmed no further criminal action would be taken. The family has launched a $5m federal lawsuit against the city and two police officers, alleging poor training, reckless disregard, and gross negligence. They have also called for the release of police body-camera footage, which has yet to be provided.
