Climate scientist Michael Mann received $1 million in a defamation lawsuit against two conservative writers who compared his climate change work to a child molester. The lawsuit, which stretches back 12 years, began after a controversial blog post by Rand Simberg in 2012, which was later referenced by writer Mark Steyn. Simberg and Steyn argued they were expressing their opinion. Mann is known for his famous “hockey stick” graph in 1998, which displayed a sharp increase in average temperatures in the northern hemisphere since the 20th century. His work was included in a UN climate panel report and Al Gore’s climate change documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.”
