US border officials are closing a remote Arizona crossing because of overwhelming migrant arrivals
U.S. officials have announced the temporary closure of the port of entry at Lukeville, Arizona, due to a surge in migrants crossing from Mexico into the United States. The move is aimed at allowing operations officials, who usually oversee vehicle and pedestrian traffic, to assist Border Patrol agents in arresting and processing the new arrivals. The Lukeville area has become a significant migration route, with smugglers transporting people from various countries such as Senegal, India, and China. The closure has been criticized by Arizona’s senators and governor, who call it “unacceptable.” Travelers will still be able to cross into or out of the U.S. via Nogales or San Luis, Arizona.
