US air strikes target Iranian-backed militias – NBC Chicago

The United States launched retaliatory strikes in Iraq and Syria in response to a deadly drone attack on a US military base in Jordan. The strikes, targeting Iran-backed militias, hit 85 targets including facilities, command and control and intelligence centers, as well as rockets, missiles, and drone storage sites. US President Biden stated that the campaign could last for weeks and was a response to harm done to American military personnel. The strikes were strategically planned to avoid civilian casualties. Political Science Professor Robert Pape highlighted that the US aimed to demonstrate its strength without escalating into direct conflict with Iran.
