UPenn President Liz Magill steps down after controversial testimony on antisemitism

University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) President Liz Magill has resigned due to public backlash over her comments on antisemitism to Congress. She faced pressure from Penn alumni and elected officials after failing to condemn calls for genocide of Jews during her testimony. Her resignation came after major donor Ross Stevens withdrew a $100 million gift to the school in protest against the university’s handling of antisemitism and her leadership. The resignation followed an emergency meeting by the university’s board of trustees. Despite the resignation, Magill will retain her position as a tenured faculty member at Penn Carey Law.
