UPenn president Liz Magill and Board Chair Scott Bok resign after disastrous hearing on antisemitism

Liz Magill, President of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Board Chair Scott Bok have resigned following criticism over her statement about antisemitism at a Congressional hearing. Magill will stay on as an interim president until a successor is found and will continue as a tenured professor at Penn Carey Law School. Her mishandling of antisemitism on campus was heavily criticized, particularly her failure to confirm that calls for genocide against Jews would violate the university’s code of conduct. Her testimony led to business leaders, donors, and politicians demanding her resignation. She came under further fire for the university’s handling of a controversial Palestinian literature festival on campus.
