University of Nevada, Las Vegas, shooting: Shooter was career college professor, source says, but unknown whether he had a connection with school

A mass shooting on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus resulted in three deaths and one person critically injured. The shooter, a 67-year-old career college professor with connections to colleges in Georgia and North Carolina, was also killed. Law enforcement engaged the shooter outside of Beam Hall where there was a gathering of students. Four other individuals were hospitalized due to panic attacks and two law enforcement officers were treated for minor injuries. The shooting occurred during study week before final exams, and is the 80th school shooting in the U.S. this year. The investigation into the shooter’s motive and weapon is ongoing.
