University and Unions Begin Discussing Pay and Benefits – Chicago Maroon

Unionized nurses and graduate students at the University of Chicago held a press conference to demand higher pay and benefits. According to National Nurses United (NNU), over half of the “core nursing staff” has left the UChicago Medical Center since the pandemic began, causing remaining staff to be over-stretched. The graduate students and nurses are currently in bargaining sessions with the University. The nurses’ union contract expired in November, leaving them free to strike. The Graduate Student Union (GSU) has yet to agree with the University on pay, benefits, and a non-discrimination statement.
