U.S., U.K. launch new round of joint strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen

The US and UK military launched airstrikes against Iranian-backed Houthi targets in Yemen. The action came a day after US airstrikes on Iranian targets in Syria and Iraq, and targets support for ongoing attacks on international shipping and naval vessels. Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, and New Zealand also provided support. The Houthi attacks have impacted international shipping routes, with BP halting oil shipments through the Red Sea and furniture giant Ikea warning of possible product shortages. The Biden administration has declared the Houthi a “specially designated global terrorist group.”
