Roy claims his constituents support this move, saying that they want the border or the government shut down until President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas address the issue. This is not the first time Roy has threatened a government shutdown over border policy; he similarly threatened to hinder the government funding process last year if Trump’s border wall was not resurrected. In response to these threats, House Speaker Mike Johnson reassured voters that GOP lawmakers are not planning to shut down the government. Nonetheless, Roy recently circulated a letter urging Congress to block funding bills to enforce stricter immigration restrictions.
