U.S. national arrested in Russia on drug trafficking charges
A US national, Robert Romanov Woodland, has been arrested in Russia on charges of drug acquisition, storage, transportation, and production. Currently held in pre-trial detention for two months, he faces up to 20 years imprisonment and an unlimited fine if found guilty. Woodland, who holds dual nationality and is reportedly unemployed with no criminal record, was denied house arrest due to lack of medical evidence. Born in Russia and raised in the US, Woodland currently lives in Dolgoprudyy, a suburb north of Moscow. His case follows that of another US national, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, also awaiting trial in Russia.
