U.S. failed to track $1 billion in Ukraine military aid, watchdog says

The US Defense Department did not properly keep track of over $1 billion worth of sensitive military equipment provided to Ukraine, according to a report from the Pentagon’s inspector general. The report did not conclude that any aid had been diverted from the front lines but did suggest that officials had struggled with closer accountability and tracking. The report examined about $1.7 billion in weapons and equipment in the special tracking category and found that more than half had not been properly accounted for. Senior Pentagon and State Department officials disputed the report, asserting that they had devised alternative methods for Ukrainians to account for the equipment and weaponry.
