Trump returns to court for new E Jean Carroll trial – and it could prove costly | Donald Trump

Donald Trump is facing another legal battle, this time in a defamation case brought by E Jean Carroll who claims she was sexually abused by the former US president. Carroll sued Trump in 2019, stating that his public denial of her sexual assault claims damaged her reputation. Following New York State’s Adult Survivors Act in 2022, Carroll was able to sue again over the alleged assault. In April 2023, a jury found Trump liable for sexual assault and defamation, awarding Carroll $5m. The upcoming trial will determine if Trump defamed Carroll with his 2019 statements and the financial penalties associated with his denial.
