Trump lawyers say Georgia charges violate ‘free speech’ and that he can’t be tried while president

Donald Trump’s lawyers argue that his Georgia election subversion indictment should be dismissed as it transgresses free speech rights. The legal team also suggested that should Trump win the 2024 election, the trial should be postponed until his second term as president has concluded. This was the first in-court appearance for Trump’s legal counsel in the Georgia case, in which he and 14 other defendants face a range of state charges, including racketeering or RICO, for alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee did not issue any rulings during the hearing.
