Trump lawyers argue in Georgia 2020 election case motions hearing
Former President Donald Trump’s attorneys will defend him for the first time in a Fulton County courtroom in the Georgia election subversion case, seeking to have the charges dismissed on First Amendment grounds. The case deals with the historic indictment of Trump and 18 co-defendants in August, which includes felony racketeering charges for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Four co-defendants, including three of Trump’s former attorneys, have already pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against Trump to avoid jail. The remaining 15, including Trump, have pleaded not guilty. Trump’s attorneys will argue that his claims of widespread voter fraud were political speech and should not have led to an indictment. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee has previously ruled against First Amendment challenges in this case.
