Trump lawyer says he will take stand in fraud trial regardless of gag order

Former President Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, has announced that Trump will testify in his civil fraud trial despite a gag order and warnings from his legal team. She argues that the gag order, which prevents Trump from commenting on the trial’s staff, is a violation of the First Amendment. While an appeals court briefly paused the gag order in November, it was reinstated last week. The trial, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, accuses Trump and his business, along with several executives, of manipulating asset values for tax and insurance benefits. Trump is expected to testify on Monday as the defense’s final witness.
