Trump can’t speak during closing arguments in NY civil fraud trial, judge says

Donald Trump is not expected to speak during the closing arguments of the $370 million civil fraud trial against him, according to Judge Arthur Engoron. The trial, headed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, alleges that Trump and his company defrauded banks and insurance companies by inflating the value of his assets. The judge has already deemed Trump liable for fraud and is now considering damages and additional claims. Engoron had offered Trump the opportunity to participate in the defense closing argument, under specific conditions which Trump’s legal team rejected. This case does not involve criminal charges but seeks damages and a bar on Trump doing business in New York State.
