‘TJ’ Siderio’s family sues philly, officer accused of shooting him – NBC10 Philadelphia

The family of a 12-year-old boy, Thomas “TJ” Siderio, shot and killed by a Philadelphia police officer in March 2022 has filed a lawsuit against the city and the officer involved. Prosecutors state that Siderio was unarmed and on the ground when officer Edsaul Mendoza fired the fatal shot. The lawsuit seeks compensation for various damages including medical expenses, funeral and burial expenses, costs of estate administration, and damages for emotional and psychological losses. Mendoza has been charged with murder and awaits trial in jail without bail. The incident occurred after Siderio allegedly fired a shot into the back window of an unmarked police car; however, prosecutors contend that the officers may have stopped the boys for a bicycle traffic violation.
