Three killed as record rainfall drenches California

A powerful storm has struck California, causing fatal accidents, flooding, mudslides, and power outages. The storm, which is due to an “atmospheric river” effect, has resulted in record-breaking rainfall and led the governor to declare a state of emergency in eight counties. At least three people have died due to falling trees, and several rescues from flooding incidents have been conducted. The heavy rainfall is expected to continue, leading to further life-threatening flash flooding. The storm is the second atmospheric river to hit California in two weeks.
