The Arctic experienced its hottest summer on record, warming nearly four times faster than any other location on the planet, according to a report by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The report points out that the Arctic is becoming less icy, wetter, and greener. The past 17 years have seen the 17 smallest annual minimum sea ice covers in the 45-year satellite record. Wildfires forced communities to evacuate, and glacial thinning caused a river to surge into homes. Significant climate changes have also affected salmon populations, with some nearing record lows while others reached record highs. The NOAA administrator called for immediate action to slow global warming.
