The GOP’s most Trump-skeptical bloc starts falling in line

Donald Trump’s campaign to secure endorsements for a potential 2024 presidential run is gaining momentum within the GOP. Trump secured five endorsements from Republican senators during December, bringing his total to 18 endorsements from Senate Republicans. The support ranges from establishment-minded Republicans to confrontational conservatives. Among recent endorsers are freshman Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.). Some GOP members see an advantage in early support for Trump, including those up for reelection in 2024 in red states. Despite the rising support, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s relationship with Trump is strained, and some senators remain concerned about his ability to win a general election.
