The downing of the Il-22 plane over the Sea of Azov – the expert told about its further fate

The Russian Il-22 plane shot down by the Armed Forces of Ukraine will likely be written off due to the extent of its damage, according to aviation expert Ihor Romanenko. The plane, which was built before 1976, needs to replace its entire tail part or skin, which is unrealistic as spare parts for the aircraft do not exist. On January 14, Russian troops lost the Il-22 air command post and long-range radar detection and control aircraft A-50 over the Sea of Azov, which was later confirmed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny. Despite managing to fly to Anapa, the spokesperson for the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yuriy Ignat, stated that the Il-22 cannot be restored.
