Texas wants to study AI and expand its use within state agencies

The state of Texas has formed an Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council to study the use of AI in state agencies and provide oversight and law recommendations. Since 2022, over one-third of Texas agencies have started using AI tools, according to the 2022 Biennial Performance Report. State Representative Giovanni Capriglione has said that while Texas wants to increase AI use in state agencies for better, lower-cost services, concerns remain about bias, system abuse, cyberattacks, and privacy. The advisory council will consist of legal and ethical experts and will invite public feedback on AI use in Texas. Currently, AI is used in high-risk agencies such as law enforcement and power infrastructure.
