Texas shooting spree: Gunman’s parents among 6 dead in attacks, sheriff says

Shane James, a 34-year-old Texas man, has been charged with two counts of capital murder after killing six people, including his parents, and injuring two police officers in a series of attacks from San Antonio to Austin. James, a former US Army infantry officer with a history of mental health problems, had previously been arrested for assaulting family members. However, he cut off his ankle monitor shortly after his release. Following his arrest after a police chase that ended with a car crash, it was discovered that the killings began with his parents at their home in San Antonio, before James moved on to Austin where he killed four more people. The mass killing is the 42nd in the US this year, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today.
