This ruling is in response to a lawsuit accusing the Biden administration of exceeding its authority. The Biden administration had earlier issued guidance that the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (Emtala) can require abortion in cases of medical emergencies even in states where it’s banned. Following this, Texas and anti-abortion medical associations sued the administration, suggesting the guidance interfered with the state’s right to restrict abortion. The recent ruling upholds a lower court order that blocks enforcement of the guidance in Texas and against members of two anti-abortion medical associations in the country.
