Texas A.G. Ken Paxton Tries to Block Court-Approved Abortion

The Texas Supreme Court has temporarily stopped a Dallas woman from getting an abortion, despite her fetus having a fatal condition. The decision comes in response to an appeal from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, effectively putting an order permitting the abortion from a Travis County district court on hold. The woman, Kate Cox, is represented by the Center for Reproductive Rights, and her case is the latest in a series of conflicts over Texas’ strict abortion laws. The Texas Supreme Court’s decision only applies to Cox’s case, but it is also considering a broader lawsuit against the state’s abortion bans. Meanwhile, Paxton, backed by strong conservative support, has gained prominence for his readiness to take legal action on contentious issues.
