Texans asked to conserve energy Tuesday as statewide freeze continues straining power grid | San Antonio
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the operator of Texas’ power grid, has asked businesses and residents to conserve energy twice to prevent straining the electrical supply following a freezing blast over the weekend. The latest conservation request was made as low 20s temperatures persisted and the weather was expected to affect the majority of the state through Wednesday. ERCOT stated that Monday’s conservation efforts, along with additional grid reliability tools, helped avoid emergency measures such as rolling blackouts. The organization clarified that these voluntary conservation requests are not indicative of plans to implement such emergency measures.
