Teenager Killed While ‘Subway Surfing’ in Brooklyn, Officials Say

A teenager was killed in a subway surfing incident in Brooklyn while riding on the outside of a subway train. The incident occurred on a southbound F train at the Avenue N station. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has been raising awareness about the dangers of subway surfing, including placing digital signs throughout the transit system and stationing special patrols on high-risk lines. MTA also reported a significant increase in incidents of people riding outside trains, with numbers quadrupling from 2021 to 2022. Efforts have also been made to discourage the practice by working with social media sites to remove footage of subway surfing.
