Supreme Court announces funeral plans for former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor
Former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor will be honored with a private funeral service on December 19 following a day of public viewing at the Supreme Court. O’Connor, the first female Supreme Court justice, passed away on December 1 at the age of 93. There will also be a public viewing of her casket at the Great Hall of the Supreme Court, and a private ceremony prior to this on December 18. The funeral service will be held at the Washington National Cathedral, a site often used for high-profile government officials. President Biden called O’Connor “an American icon” and praised her work in promoting civics education and civil discourse.
