South braces for snow and ice as new storm collides with Arctic cold

The US is currently experiencing an arctic blast which will initiate impactful snow and ice in parts of the South. This is the fourth storm in two weeks to threaten major impacts to regions east of the Rockies. More than 75% of the US population is expected to encounter temperatures below freezing within the next week, potentially breaking over 250 daily cold temperature records. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has declared a state of emergency due to the impending weather conditions. The extreme cold also presents a challenge for Texas’s power grid, which is vulnerable to extreme temperatures.
