Shipping Containers Transformed Into Hub for Small Businesses – Chicago Maroon
Boxville, a hub of small businesses in Bronzeville, utilizes shipping containers as retail spaces. Established in 2017, the location currently hosts 20 businesses across 17 shipping containers. The concept started with a single bike sales and repair shop, Bronzeville Bike Box, in 2014. The Boxville community also includes The Work Spot, a custom print apparel business that plans to expand into a larger warehouse. The Boxville initiative is part of a larger effort to revitalize Bronzeville, with a focus on supporting Black-owned businesses and reflecting the area’s historical significance in the Chicago Black community.
