A series of intense winter storms has brought heavy rainfall and the risk of flooding to the already saturated San Diego region in Southern California. The storm, which passed over the region on Sunday, caused significant rain showers, along with mudslides and submerged roadways, though not as severe as in Orange and Los Angeles counties. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in San Diego and seven other counties due to the severity of the storm. The National Weather Service reported that in a two-day period ending late Monday, rainfall varied from a hundredth of an inch to over three inches across coastal, inland-valley, and mountain communities. Rainfall totals varied, with 3.56 inches in San Onofre and only 0.2 inches recorded in Chula Vista.
