Search for missing Marine helicopter is under way in East County

A U.S. Marine helicopter carrying five individuals went missing in the snowy mountainous terrain in East County. The helicopter, from the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, was last heard from around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. It was flying from Creech Air Force Base in Nevada to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar when it was reported overdue. Cal Fire San Diego, the county Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Border Patrol and Civil Air Patrol are all involved in the search. The search has been hampered by heavy snowfall and the rugged, mountainous terrain.
