Sean Loloee indicted on 25 counts and pleads not guilty

Sacramento city council member Sean Loloee and Karla Montoya, the general manager of his Viva Supermarket chain, were indicted on 25 counts of conspiracy, obstruction, and use of false immigration documents, with Loloee also being charged with pandemic relief fraud. According to court documents, Loloee and Montoya employed a significant number of unauthorized workers since 2008 to reduce labor costs, including not paying required overtime wages. They are also accused of obstructing two investigations by the Department of Labor in 2020 by making false statements and attempting to hide certain workers. Loloee additionally faces charges of wire fraud for underreporting his store’s gross receipts to qualify for COVID-19 relief from the Restaurant Revitalization Fund program. Both Loloee and Montoya have pleaded not guilty.
