Schumer Condemns Antisemitism, Warning the Left Against Abetting It
Senator Chuck Schumer, the Democratic majority leader, has cautioned that some liberals and young people are unintentionally promoting antisemitism in their pursuit of social justice. Schumer, the highest-ranking Jewish official in the US, made a 40-minute-long speech on the Senate floor criticizing the rise of antisemitism since Israel began retaliating against Hamas’s October 7 terrorist attack. He mentioned that antisemitic hate crimes have surged in the US, and accused some pro-Palestinian protestors of espousing hatred and bigotry towards Jews. Schumer also expressed his disappointment that some fellow progressives fail to extend their fight against injustice to the Jewish community. He encouraged young Americans to learn about the history of Jewish persecution and urged all Americans to denounce antisemitism.
