Democrat Sara Innamorato Emerges Victorious in Allegheny County Executive Race

Democrat Sara Innamorato secured a victory in the Allegheny County executive race, according to AP projections on Tuesday. Innamorato, 37, and Republican candidate Joe Rockey were vying for the position currently held by Rich Fitzgerald, a Democrat who has reached his term limit after 12 years in office.

During her victory speech at her election headquarters in Millvale at Mr. Smalls, Innamorato expressed gratitude towards her supporters and outlined her plans for the county. “I know as a congresswoman, along with Senator (John) Fetterman and (Bob) Casey and Congressman Chris DeLuzio, we can bring that federal money back here to Allegheny County,” she said. Innamorato’s win marks the first time a woman has held this office.

Rockey conceded the race on Tuesday night, wishing Innamorato and Allegheny County the best for the future. “We congratulated her on a well-run campaign, but that doesn’t diminish the campaign that we ran. I’m very proud of what we’ve done,” he said from his election headquarters at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh.

Joe Rockey Concedes in Allegheny County Executive Race

For Rockey, the race required a significant number of Democrat votes and an increased Republican turnout. In contrast, Innamorato, in a region where Democrats outnumber Republicans two to one, needed majority Democrat support to secure her win.

Rockey, a former businessman and moderate Republican, campaigned on major issues such as public safety, jobs, and property taxes. In contrast, Innamorato, a former state representative, focused on championing the rights of marginalized individuals, reducing blight to ensure community safety, and promoting stable, high-quality housing for all residents.
