Sailor missing more than 2 weeks arrives in Hawaii, Coast Guard says

A sailor named Noel Rubio, who was overdue in arriving in Hawaii by over two weeks, finally arrived safely, although the cause for the delay was not given. Rubio had departed from Long Beach, California, on December 28 on his vessel, the Malulani, and was expected to arrive in Hawaii on January 18. The U.S. Coast Guard initiated a search for Rubio after he failed to arrive and no communication was heard from him following his departure. The only communication method aboard Rubio’s 32-foot Westsail sloop was a marine band radio. The Coast Guard utilized varied resources to locate Rubio’s ship, including information broadcasts, harbor checks, and advice from experienced sailors regarding potential routes that Rubio may have taken.
