Rudy Giuliani’s trial for damages in defamation lawsuit filed by two Georgia election workers begins today

Jury selection has been completed for the defamation lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani, former attorney for ex-U.S. President Donald Trump, regarding allegations of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, two former Fulton County, Georgia, election workers, have sued Giuliani for falsely accusing them of manipulating the election results in Georgia. The plaintiffs are seeking $15.5 to $43 million in damages. District Judge Beryl Howell has previously held Giuliani liable for several defamation claims and also ordered him to reimburse Freeman and Moss for attorneys’ fees and costs. Giuliani had admitted to making false statements about the plaintiffs but claimed these were constitutionally protected.
