Rudy Giuliani to appear in court over defamation of 2020 election workers | Rudy Giuliani

Rudy Giuliani is facing a federal defamation lawsuit and will start defending himself in a Washington DC courtroom. The suit accuses him of making false statements about election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, resulting in death threats against them. Having conceded that he made defamatory statements, the trial will focus on the penalties he should pay, with Freeman and Moss seeking damages between $15m and $43.5m. The case is key as it is one of several testing if defamation law can be used to combat misinformation. Giuliani also faces criminal charges in Georgia concerning Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
