Renewed Israel-Gaza war crowds out climate at COP28 – POLITICO

The COP28 United Nations climate summit was disrupted by the Gaza conflict, resulting in a change of focus from climate change to diplomacy and conflict resolution. The Iranian delegation walked out in protest at Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s presence. Several other key figures, such as Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, were absent. Tensions rose after news of a collapsing truce between Israel and Hamas. Amidst the conflict, world leaders still made brief statements about their climate change efforts. However, the Gaza issue overshadowed the summit’s original agenda.
