Remains found in Orange County identified

Remains found in Orange County 26 years ago have been identified as Donald Raymond Loar, a 54-year-old man reported missing in February 1998. The remains were discovered by a research biologist in August 1998, in a remote area of Orange County, with additional remains found in a shallow grave during a second search in September 1998. In January 2023, forensic samples were submitted to a Texas laboratory, and a genetic profile was developed using publicly accessible databases. In November 2023, investigators tentatively identified the remains as Loar, and this was confirmed in January 2024 by the California Department of Justice. The circumstances surrounding Loar’s death are still under investigation.
