According to Professor Cynthia Alkon from Texas A&M University School of Law, district attorney offices are being influenced by political groups and nonprofits who are interested in the criminal legal system. She highlights that district attorneys have broad discretionary power with almost no checks on deciding what cases to file and how. This trend extends to other elected offices as well. Social criminal reform changes are also widely occurring across the nation. However, criticisms arise with Bexar County Precinct 3 Commissioner Grant Moody expressing discomfort with the idea of external political groups influencing local justice, pushing for a focus on enforcing laws rather than creating social and political changes.
